So far limited information is available. A social media post published shortly before 10:30 a.m. by the City of Minneapolis says the shooting occurred in the area of East 34th Street and Portland Avenue.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also called on ICE agents to leave the city, according to the City of Minneapolis.

Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. Tina Smith both say they are aware of the shooting. Both elected leaders indicated Immigrations and Custom Enforcement (ICE) was the agency involved.

The Governor said his public safety team is working to gather more information and says they will share more information as it becomes available.

Walz also urged the public to remain calm.

Sen. Tina Smith is indicating a U.S. citizen was shot by ICE agents. She called the situation on the ground "volatile" and says she's working to learn more information.

Smith also called on ICE to leave Minneapolis.

Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin says a member of a crowd gathered at the site of a targeted enforcement operation drove a vehicle at ICE agents. She said an agent, fearing for his life, the lives of fellow officers and the public, "fired defensive shots.

McLaughlin said the motorist was killed and that ICE officers were injured. She says the injured officers are expected to make full recoveries.

Mayor Jacob Frey and Gov. Tim Walz are disputing DHS calling the deadly shooting an act of self defense.

Witness video of the deadly encounter are circulating on social media.

DHS recently announced the deployment of around 2000 federal agents to the Twin Cities area.

The influx of law officers began last weekend to target fraud and illegal immigration in what federal officials describe as one of the largest single city mobilizations by the Department of Homeland Security in recent years.
