Hayfield Man Arraigned on Charges Connected to Motorcycle Crash
Hayfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Hayfield man was arraigned today in Dodge County Court on a felony criminal vehicular operation charge stemming from a motorcycle crash last month.
The criminal complaint against 26-year-old Devin Michael Miles indicates that he also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving after revocation in connection with the July 28 incident in Hayfield.
According to the charges, a Dodge County Deputy who responded to the crash noted that Miles had slurred and slow speech. That led to the administration of a preliminary test that measured his blood-alcohol-concentration at more than .12.
The court document says Miles told the deputy that the crash occurred when he lost control of the motorcycle after he felt his passenger losing her grip and beginning to fall off the bike. He stated that he responded by turning to reach for a woman and ended up grabbing the handbrake, which caused the motorcycle to flip onto its side.
When deputies arrived at the scene they found a woman suffering from significant injuries. She had "road rash" on her shoulder, hips, and legs. The crash report also described a large bump on her head that was slightly bleeding.
The criminal complaint says Miles admitted that he and the victim had been in Northwoods, I will earlier the day and had consumed a couple of alcoholic drinks. He also stated that he had another drink at a bar after returning to Hayfield and that later, he and the victim finished off "two 12-packs of 12 ounce Twisted Teas equally."
Miles' next court appearance is scheduled to be held in October.
