Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A drone is being blamed for a brush fire and a small power outage near Rochester this afternoon.
Drone Crash Causes Brush Fire Near Rochester
The Pine Island Fire Department says firefighters were dispatched to an area along Highway 52 at 85th Street Northwest around 1 p.m. after receiving a report of a brush fire. Responding crews discovered that a drone had struck power lines, igniting a fire.
Firefighters Quickly Contain Brush Fire
The news release indicates the fire did not pose a risk to nearby structures or property. No injuries were reported.
The Pine Island Fire Department assisted with traffic control while a crew from People's Cooperative Power restored service to multiple customers affected by the incident.
Agricultural Drone Hits Power Lines
The statement says the drone was owned by a company that was applying product to a cornfield when the mishap occurred. The remote-control aircraft was destroyed.
