A news release issued Thursday morning says officers responded to a report of two bodies seen lying on the ground around 2:50 Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to the location of the body discovery in the area of 14th St. and 4th Ave. Southwest, which is near the Crossroads Shopping Center and just north of the Rochester Math and Science Academy.

The woman was pronounced dead upon officers arrival. Responding officers rendered aid to the man until a Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew arrived at the scene to transport him to a hospital, where he is said to be recovering as of Thursday morning.

Rochester Police Chief James Franklin issued a brief statement following the discovery of the woman’s body:

Homelessness is a complex issue, and RPD continues to seek a wide variety of solutions to help those experiencing it. Through a partnership with a new community outreach Drug & Alcohol Response Team, we are providing people with support services.
