Where’s My Minnesota Property Tax Refund?
Many Minnesotans are watching their mailbox and or bank accounts this time of year, as Minnesota property tax refund checks are coming up. Some Minnesotans have already gotten their deposit, but if you are wondering where your refund check is, here is some information to help you figure that out.

Am I eligible for a property tax refund?
Are you eligible for a property tax refund from the state? Here are the things you will need to have to be eligible:
- A valid Social Security number
- To be a Minnesota resident or have spent at least 183 days in the state
- Has lived in and paid rent on a Minnesota building where the owner was assessed property tax or made payments in place of property tax
- Has made less than $73,270 per renter in 2023, and/or the income limit for homeowners claiming a property tax refund is $135,410.
- Not claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return
If you've checked all those boxes, then there is a website for you to go to to check on the status of your refund.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue has a Where's my refund? website, which you can find here.
When searching for your refund, you'll have to use the same information — i.e. Social Security number, date of birth, exact refund amount — used with your 2023 filing. So, you might have to dig up your return from last year to complete the online search.
Do renters qualify for a refund?
Both homeowners and renters are eligible to claim a refund.
If you still have questions, or can't find your return information online you can contact the Minnesota Department of Revenue and their Property Tax Refund staff at: individual.incometax@state.mn.us or you can call with questions 800-652-9094
