Central Minnesota Baseball Team Gave This 85-Year-Old A Great Gift
The Minnesota amateur state tournament will wrap up this weekend, actually on Labor Day, with the champions being crowned. Earlier this month, a post from the Victory League caught my attention not for a boxscore or on the field accomplishment, but for an act of kindness that you'll often hear about when it comes to townball.
It Started As An Innocent Question
Rick Grammond, a former radio broadcaster, now sports streamer, was asked by someone about getting a townball cap for someone. It's what happened next that showcased the true community spirit of townball.

Rick, who so graciously allowed me to share his post, wrote in the post that "earlier this spring I was approached by a good friend with a request. He provided this photo of a player from I can only assume the 1950’s(?) in his Flensburg uniform. The man’s daughter hoped to acquire a cap from the current Flensburg Falcons team that she could gift to her father, so I reached out to the guys in Flensburg and they made it happen."
Turned Into One Of The Biggest Smiles
Look at Mr. Doug Copa's smile in that photo!
If you were ever part of a team, you'll know that the shared memories you make together will often stay with you for a lifetime. I have great memories still from my time competing as a high schooler on the wrestling team, and in fact, I am still in touch with some of those same teammates today.
I'm not sure if Mr Copa played for the Flensburg Falcons, but the sheer act of kindness from the team to get him a hat seems to have made him very happy.
Thanks to Rick for letting me share this memory, and a big tip of the cap to the Flensburg Falcons for coming through.
