It's not often that we get to hear songs of sailors and stories of their lives on the Great Lakes.

Artist and songwriter Charlie Maguire is changing that. Charlie is bringing his 'Going to Bartalina: Songs & Stories of Great Lakes Sailing' to a Great River Regional Library near you.

CHARLIE'S LIVED EXPERIENCE MAKES SOME GREAT MUSIC

Charlie Maguire has an interesting life story. He's an artist, musician, and songwriter who likes to write from lived experience. Realizing that we don't get to hear many stories about the people who live their lives on vessels, he reached out to the industry and asked to work on vessels in the Great Lakes, so he could bring back actual lived experiences of sailor life and deep-water adventures.

HEARTBREAKING HISTORY...STORIES RELIVED

The waters of the Great Lakes are beautiful, but they also hold some heartbreaking history. From the Mataafa wreck near Canal Park in 1905, to the sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975, these stories still stick with people today.

BRINGING REAL MOMENTS BACK TO LIFE

Charlie is bringing those moments back to life through music, and after talking with him last week, I can really feel how much this project means to him. This isn’t just a show for Charlie...it’s something he truly cares about.

What makes it even more special is that Charlie didn’t just make up these stories. Charlie actually lived them. He’s the only songwriter who’s been allowed on board working ships like the Nordic Trader, the William Clay Ford, and even the USCGC Sundew WLB-404 to experience life out on the water firsthand.
