WATCHING TV IN THE 70S

When I was a child, there were certain television programs that required you to hurry up and finish your supper so you could rush away from the kitchen table, and find a comfortable place to sit on the floor in the living room, and watch TV. I think more than once I heard the words, "You're too close to the TV! Back up or you'll go blind."

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE REBOOT

Little House on the Prairie was one of those programs. I couldn't wait for it to come on the TV. The stories of Laura Ingalls and her sisters Mary and Cari, Ma, Pa, Nelly, Mr. and Mrs. Olson; and so many more.

It also is what sparked a bit of reading for me. Almost every little girl I knew wanted to read Laura Ingall's Wilder 'Little House' books, based on Laura's own stories of growing up in the American West back in the 1800s.

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE BOOK SERIES

According to an article, Little House stories were written during the Great Depression and then finally published in the 1930s.

It wasn't until the 1970s that we would see Little House on the Praire on TV, which ran for almost a decade.

THANK YOU NETFLIX

Netflix is planning on bringing the series to a new generation, but they have not yet announced a release date. I saw that they have been discussing bringing it back since 2020.

WHY NOW?

Why would Netflix bring it back now? Will people watch it? Recently Nielsen reported that the original series that ran back in the 70's and 80's had 13.25 billion minutes of viewing in 2024!

The new Little House on the Prairie is slated to be a part of the 'wholesome' line of programming that they already have, consisting of Virgin River, My Life with the Walter Boys, and Sweet Magnolias, and is going to consist of family drama, survival, and will be part origin story, and will cover the difficulties and the joy that settlers experienced in the Wild West.

Did you watch Little House on the Prairie when you were a kid? Will you tune in and share this new series with your children and grandchildren?
