Superior Has a Clever Plan for Old Christmas Trees
It’s that time of year when the presents have been unwrapped, the stockings are empty, dried tree needles are carpeting the living room floor, and the City of Superior is making it easier than ever to help residents move on from the holiday season.
Having a real Christmas tree is a tradition for a large percentage of Wisconsinites. It smells great, looks great, and feels right. Unfortunately, once the celebrations are over, the tree quickly turns from centerpiece to problem. Disposing of it can be one of the more annoying post-holiday chores, especially in the Twin Ports when winter is already doing enough.
Superior Brings Back a Popular Tree Disposal Option
In the past, I’ve donated my tree to the Lake Superior Zoo, or I’ve kept it until spring for the annual city cleanup run the city does. This year, Superior is bringing back a service that will make getting rid of your tree a breeze.

Superior Mayor Jim Paine announced that the city will once again collect Christmas trees at several collection points. The trees will be collected and used as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Lake Superior Ice Festival.

Where To Drop Off Your Christmas Tree
Christmas tree drop-off locations can be found at Carl Gullo Park, Webster Dream Park, and Wade Bowl. The drop-off locations are clearly marked at each site, allowing residents to pull up, unload quickly, and get on with their day.
What Happens To The Trees
The drop-off locations will be open until January 11. After that, the nicely dried trees will be collected and burned in what could be a huge bonfire at the Superior Ice Festival, scheduled for January 30 and 31 at Barker’s Island. If you’ve ever wanted the satisfaction of knowing your Christmas tree went out in a blaze of glory, this is your moment.
