This weekend was supposed to bring laughs to thousands of people who bought tickets to see a popular comedian in Minneapolis. Instead, in a last-minute decision, the shows have been canceled after concerns that “the situation is so unsafe.”

Minneapolis on Edge Heading Into the Weekend

It has been a difficult and emotional week for Minneapolis. Following the recent ICE shooting, many residents are still processing what happened, and the city has been left shaken and on edge. Mulaney rose to fame as a writer on Saturday Night Live. While he was never a cast member, he has hosted the show five times and has released multiple stand-up specials. Several of those specials have earned Emmy Awards, helping solidify his place as one of the most popular stand-up comedians working today.

Why John Mulaney Chose to Cancel in Minnesota

In a statement addressing fans, Mulaney described what is happening in Minneapolis as “heartbreaking.” He acknowledged how unfair it feels to postpone shows that so many people were looking forward to, but said he could not justify asking people to leave their homes under the current circumstances.

Mulaney added that while a stand-up show can sometimes offer a welcome distraction, it did not sit right with him to put anyone at risk, saying plainly that “the situation is so unsafe.”

New Dates Announced for Minneapolis Shows

The canceled performances have now been rescheduled for April 10, April 11, and April 12. Tickets purchased for this weekend’s shows will be honored for the new April dates, according to the venue.
