The unofficial start to the summer season in Minnesota is this weekend, with many people around the state hitting the road for the three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Minnesota-based Holiday Stationstores and their parent company Circle K announced an opportunity to fill up your tank ahead of the holiday weekend while saving some significant money in the process before hitting the road.

The promotion, referred to as "Fuel Day", is a running annual tradition among Circle K brands, and Holiday Stationstores will be joining their parent company in this pre-holiday weekend fuel discount day that also benefits a charitable cause.

Participating Holiday and Circle K gas stations will be offering up to 40 cents per gallon in fuel discounts for part of the day on Thursday (May 23). The discount is applied right at the pump, with customers being able to take advantage of the savings between 4 pm and 7 pm local time at stores across the country.

Holiday and Circle K says the price on the pump "reflects the discounted price at Circle K and Holiday Stationstores locations during that time", except for locations in Wisconsin.

Customers at Wisconsin stores will be able to save up to $4.50 on a minimum purchase of 3 gallons of fuel.

How this discount will help charity

Holiday says that 10% of the profits from fuel sales during the Fuel Day window of 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, May 23, will be donated to the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation.

This charitable cause says on their website that their mission is to "provide college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty".

The organization serves families of servicemembers of all branches of the armed forces who have died due to combat casualties, military training accidents, service-related illnesses, suicide, as well as other duty-related deaths as ruled by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
