It's a new month and a new year and it looks like we will really start it all off with a bang - at least according to one publication.

After a few mild winters in a row in the Northland, this winter is hitting a bit harder. FOX 21 Chief Meteorologist Rusty Mehlberg shared some stats about December and a look at the month ahead to give us a bit of perspective.

According to his stats, December was colder than usual in Duluth and not quite as snowy. However, he shared that January could be a different story, with models trending towards an above-average month in terms of snow.

Old Farmer's Almanac Shares January Snowstorm Prediction

On December 1st, I went to look at what the next few months had in store for our region and saw that the Old Farmer's Almanac had predicted a snowstorm for January. I decided to check back and see if anything changed: it didn't!

According to their prediction for the month ahead, we will see a snowstorm from January 29th through the end of the month. They don't ever give totals or even a ballpark, but it looks like we can start preparing ourselves now. Ugh!

As for the rest of the month? We can expect periods of snow leading up to this snowstorm with temperatures turning chilly mid-month.

(I should say chillier than the mild conditions we are currently seeing.) Get that snow scraper out. It looks like we are going to need it!
