With a new month ahead, summer is officially in the rearview mirror in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Temperatures will start cooling off and the leaves will start turning.

While the fall colors are beautiful, they can be hard to enjoy knowing that a brutal winter is likely ahead for the Northland. Ha!

Many organizations have started to share their 2024-2025 winter forecasts. Recently, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center shared that we are in for an ultra-snowy winter in the Northland.

We are also expecting a La Niña winter this season, which means we are in for a colder and wetter-than-usual winter. How fun!

But when will that winter start? That is the question on top of our mind right now as we head into fall in the Duluth area.

Well, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, we will get our first dose in October! It looks like we will be spared in September before winter rolls officially in next month.

According to their October outlook, the first part of the month will be a rainy one before temperatures cool off mid-month through the end of the month. In this case, that means snow.

For the second half of the month, we will see rain mixing with snow pretty consistently. Our average temperature for this region will be about 46 degrees. Brrrrrr!

October snow is pretty standard for Minnesota but let's just hope we don't see another Halloween blizzard.
