It’s Official: Minnesota Vikings, Brian Flores Agree On Contract Extension
While the Minnesota Vikings recently wrapped up a disappointing season where they ultimately missed the playoffs, they did finish strong by winning their final four games.
The main reason for the strong finish to the season was the incredible play of the Vikings' defense under the guidance of defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who has masterminded a tenacious and unpredictable defense since being hired by Kevin O'Connell in 2023.
Once the season ended, and a bevy of head coaches across the league were fired, there was speculation across the NFL that Flores would be a top candidate for many of those newly open jobs.
While he has been interviewing with teams to be their next head coach and could still be offered a job, we now know that if that doesn't happen, he will be returning to the Minnesota Vikings.

Brian Flores Signs Contract Extension With The Minnesota Vikings
According to multiple sources, the Minnesota Vikings and Brian Flores have agreed to a contract extension, likely much to the excitement of the Vikings players and fans throughout Minnesota.
NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero first reported the extension, and then the Vikings confirmed that it had been done. The new contract was reportedly agreed upon last week before it was finalized on Wednesday, January 21.
However, it's important to note that the 44-year-old Flores is still a candidate for the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers head coaching vacancies. However, if he doesn't land one of those jobs, it is now certain that he will return to Minnesota.
There had been some speculation that even if he didn't get a head coaching job, he might be tempted to make a lateral move for the right price to become the defensive coordinator for a team like the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, or even division rival Green Bay Packers.

Flores first began coaching in the NFL in 2004, when he was hired by the New England Patriots as an assistant in various capacities. Between 2004 and 2018, he played a role in the franchise winning four Super Bowl rings.
In 2019, Flores embarked on a three-year run as the Miami Dolphins head coach. He was fired after the 2021 season.
