The 2024 Major League Baseball Playoffs are underway and, much to the disappointment of Minnesota Twins fans, they are not involved. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the rest of the American Central Division teams are competing.

It was an epic end-of-the-season collapse by the Twins which kept them from the playoffs, which many fans blame on owner Joe Pohlad, who had announced before the season that he was cutting the Twins payroll by $30 million.

This announcement came after the Twins snapped a playoff losing streak in an electric atmosphere at Target Field just last season. Many fans this season voiced the opinion that if the Pohlad family wasn't interested in making every effort to field a competitive team, they should sell to someone who would.

Apparently, they were listening.

The Pohlad Family Announces Their Intent To Explore Selling The Twins

In a shocking press release on Thursday, the Pohlad family announced their intent to explore a sale of the Minnesota Twins, following 40 years of ownership that began in 1984.

Here is the official statement issued on October 10 by Twins Executive Chair Joe Pohlad, on behalf of the Pohlad family:

“For the past 40 seasons, the Minnesota Twins have been part of our family’s heart and soul. This team is woven into the fabric of our lives, and the Twins community has become an extension of our family. The staff, the players, and most importantly, you, the fans – everyone who makes up this unbelievable organization – is part of that. We’ve never taken lightly the privilege of being stewards of this franchise.

"However, after months of thoughtful consideration, our family reached a decision this summer to explore selling the Twins. As we enter the next phase of this process, the time is right to make this decision public.

“We truly respect and cherish what the Twins mean to Minneapolis, St. Paul, the great state of Minnesota, and this entire region. Our goal is to be as informative as possible with the team, staff, and you, the fans. You deserve that because, in so many ways, this team doesn’t belong to any one family – it belongs to all of you. It’s our objective to find an ownership group who all of us can be proud of and who will take care of the Minnesota Twins.

“After four decades of commitment, passion, and countless memories, we are looking toward the future with care and intention – for our family, the Twins organization, and this community we love so much.”

An Uncertain Future

It'll be interesting to see what happens now. It would be safe to assume that there will be a lot of interest in buying the team, which has a passionate fanbase and plays in Target Field, one of the best parks in all of Major League Baseball.

Perhaps, Alex Rodriguez's failed attempt to buy the Minnesota Twins will lead him to the Minnesota Twins. He did spend a lot of time in Minnesota while pursuing the Timberwolves maybe he fell in love with the Land Of 10,000 Lakes.

Whoever buys the team, one hopes their fresh perspective and passion will soon lead the Twins back into the playoffs.
