Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The former owner of a Minnesota catering business has been sentenced to just over four years in prison for her involvement in the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota says 63-year-old Sahra Mohamed Nur was accused of submitting fraudulent claims for reimbursement through the Federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Court documents state that between September 2020 and April 2021, Nur claimed to have served more than 1.2 million meals to children through her business, S & S Catering. It was also alleged that other sites using the Minneapolis catering business reported serving more than 8 million meals through the federal food program.

Federal prosecutors say the Minneapolis business received more than $10 million in payments from those other businesses, and more than $16 million in reimbursements from the federal government through the Minnesota Department of Education. The charges in the case accused Nur of misappropriating the funds for her own personal benefit.

Nur previously entered a guilty plea to one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. In addition to the prison sentence, she has been ordered to pay more than $5 million in restitution.
