Feds Arrest Minnesota Man Accused of Attempting to Join ISIS
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota man has been arrested on a terrorism-related charge.
The acting US Attorney for Minnesota says Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan is accused of attempting to travel from Minnesota to Somalia on two occasions to join ISIS. A news release indicates the Minneapolis man attempted to disguise the purpose of his trip as visiting family, even though he did not have family in Somalia and was traveling with his birth certificate, naturalization certificate, and high school diploma.
Minnesota Man Accused of Attempting to Join ISIS...Twice
The statement says an investigation conducted by the FBI found that Hassan publicly supported ISIS on social media and communicated with a Facebook account for an organization that encourages individuals to travel to join ISIS. The examples listed by the news release included praise for the man responsible for the ISIS- inspired terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day, and videos of him driving while holding a small ISIS flag and driving with an open knife on his lap
“As we have all seen in recent months, ISIS and its supporters pose the gravest of dangers to our communities,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick. “Those who support foreign terrorist organizations in our homeland—like Hassan—are a clear and present threat to our national security. They will be held to account.”

The office of the US Attorney for Minnesota says Hassan was arrested on Thursday on a criminal complaint charging him with attempting to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization. A federal judge ordered that he remains in custody until a formal detention hearing can take place next week.
