Mahtowa, MN (KROC-AM News)- An emergency landing caused a large traffic backup on Interstate 35 in northeastern Minnesota on Friday.

The State Patrol says a small single engine plane had to land in the northbound lanes. The emergency landing occurred around 1 p.m. near the Mahtowa exit, which is about 30 miles southwest of Duluth.

The state crash report says the aircraft made a successful landing on the freeway and came to rest in a ditch along the road. No injuries were reported.

The aircraft suffered minor to no damage and was loaded onto a flatbed truck. The emergency landing occurred as several motorists were making their way to Duluth for the Grandma's Marathon and caused a traffic backup that stretched for several miles.
