Rare Job With One Of The Best Views In Minnesota Just Announced New Opening
I'm pretty sure most people who have ever been to Duluth's Canal Park have at least in passing thought about the person who works in the booth on the Aerial Lift Bridge.
I've actually walked past conversations of people asking things like "I wonder where they go to the bathroom" to "How does someone get a job like that?" While I don't have an answer for that bathroom question, I do happen to have one for the job question!
The City of Duluth just announced a new opening on the crew for the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. They're looking not just for an employee, but for a supervisor for the bridge.
Jobs on the Aerial Lift Bridge are pretty rare. Whenever an opening does pop up, it is certainly noteworthy. This particular job opening is especially rare, as it is for the supervisory role.

In a social media post about the pretty sweet-sounding gig, they sell it with an image saying "This could be your office view" with a ship cruising into the harbor between the piers that welcome ships in from Lake Superior.
How much does the job of Aerial Lift Bridge Supervisor pay? What sort of qualifications do you need to get a job like that? I'll explain.
This full-time job has a listed salary range of between $82,005.00 and $107,912.00 per year. Besides that pretty solid salary, the City of Duluth says the job comes with a generous benefits package. Yes, that goes beyond the awesome office view.

Benefits include medical/dental/life insurance, retirement benefits, vacation/sick/personal leave, paid holidays, and more.
That all sounds pretty great, right? Getting the job takes the right person, though.
The job posting notes a number of requirements for the right candidate, including the possession and maintenance of a Minnesota State Electrical Journeyman License, at least two years of supervisory experience, at least a few years of working experience with industrial electrically-operated equipment, and a lot of skills and knowledge in areas like welding and metalworking, electrical systems, budgetary management, and more.
The expectations are not only to know how to operate and fix things on the bridge, but also to manage the crew and budget.
So, I'm not personally qualified. But if you are, the application window is open through 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025. You can read the full job description, job requirements, and apply here.
