Pine River, MN (MinnesotaNow) – Authorities are investigating the drowning of a 54-year-old man in Pine River.

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk confirmed that the incident was reported on Monday evening (Aug 26) at 5:31 PM, when the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a missing adult male in the City of Pine River.

According to the Pine River Police Department, the man had left a residence and gone swimming in the Pine River but failed to return.

Responding officers and emergency personnel quickly began searching the area. After nearly two hours, at 7:13 PM, the victim was located in the river, deceased.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.

The Pine River Police Department and Pine River Fire Department assisted the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning continues. Further details will be released as they become available.
