Child Porn Conviction Results in Probation For Rochester Man
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been sentenced to five years on probation for a child pornography conviction.
66-year-old Gerald Giles recently entered a guilty plea to a felony count of possession of child pornography. Through a plea deal, three other counts of the same crime were dismissed.
Giles was formally charged last December but had been under investigation since August 2021. That's when the Rochester Police Department received a cyber tip that led to a search of his home a couple of months later. The execution of the search warrant resulted in the discovery of a computer tower that contained an estimated 150 images of suspected child abuse material. The criminal complaint says the list of images included photos of a girl as young as 10 years old engaging in sexual conduct.
His sentence included a stay of adjudication. Under Minnesota law, that means his conviction will not be entered into state criminal records and could be dismissed if he meets all of the terms of his probation.
