St. Paul Park, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Twin Cities man was brought into court today to face a felony charge for allegedly driving away after the passenger on his motorcycle fell off and suffered severe injuries.

The criminal complaint filed in Washington County Court says law enforcement officers responded to an injury crash on Highway 61 in St. Paul Park on Sunday and found 60-year-old Kimberly Ann Robinson of Newport lying motionless on the shoulder of the roadway. She was transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with life-threatening injuries. The criminal complaint indicates she is intubated and suffered serious permanent disfigurement.

The court document states that investigators spoke with a witness who recorded the incident on his vehicle's dashcam. The witness told officers that he was driving north at around 80 mph when a motorcycle passed his car and the driver directed an obscene gesture at him while riding by.

Shortly after that, the witness saw the motorcycle collide with the rear bumper of an SUV, which caused the motorcycle to wobble, and Robinson fell off the back. The man told investigators the driver of the motorcycle did not stop, and the dashcam video shows the motorcyclist stop at the top of the next offramp before looking back at the crash site. The motorcycle driver could then be seen heading south on Highway 61 and passing the site of the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were able to identify 70-year-old Lonnie William Cory of Inver Grove Heights as the driver of the motorcycle. The court document says officers went to his home, and without prompting, he stated, "Is my sister okay?" He then told the officers that he knew she fell off the back "but got scared and kept driving."

The charging document says Cory told the officers that he and Robinson were coming back home from a bar in Prescott, Wisconsin, and admitted that he "nicked" a car. When he looked back, Robinson was no longer on the motorcycle.

The criminal complaint says a preliminary breath test administered at his home measured his blood-alcohol concentration at more than 0.12. It also states that Cory admitted he had been drinking earlier in the day but claimed he began drinking again after returning home.

He is charged with one count of criminal vehicular operation involving great bodily harm and leaving the scene. His conditional bail was set at $35,000.
