Byron Man Suspected of Slashing Woman With Knife in Custody
Byron, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Byron suspected of slashing a woman with a knife was brought into custody over the weekend.
Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain Tim Parkin said deputies were dispatched to a domestic assault call in the 100 block of 8th St. Northeast in Byron around 6 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival deputies encountered a 50-year-old woman with a laceration across her right arm.
The woman told deputies she and 51-year-old Lee Stellmaker had been in an argument that ended when he slashed her with a knife, Parkin said. Deputies then went inside of the home to speak with Stellmaker.
Parkin said the deputies found blood on his hands and a knife suspected of being used in the slashing. Stellmaker invoked his right not to speak with law enforcement and was taken to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
A preliminary breath test conducted at the jail indicated Stellmaker has a 0.28 blood alcohol concentration, Parkin said. Stellmaker was jailed on suspicion of second-degree assault and domestic assault. He’s awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.
Parkin said a Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew responded to the scene to evaluate the victim’s knife wound, which was described as a 2.5 inch laceration. It’s unknown if the wound required further medical attention than what was given at the scene.
