At Least 4 People Killed on Minnesota Roads This Weekend
The list includes a hit-and-run. The Forest Lake Police Department says officers responded around 1:20 AM to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. Despite lifesaving measures administered by first responders, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver left the scene, but the vehicle was later located and a suspect was arrested.
A bit over an hour earlier, a suspected drunk driver was fatally injured in a wrong-way crash on I-35E in Eagan. The State Patrol says 28-year-old Nraughli Vang was driving north in the southbound lanes of the freeway when his car crashed into an SUV pulling the boat on a trailer. All three occupants of the SUV were from Albert Lea and suffered life-threatening injuries. They have been identified as, 60-year-old Nancy Heideman, 57-year-old Randy Heideman, and 25-year-old Desirae Heideman.
The State Patrol responded to another fatal crash around 11:30 AM on Saturday on Highway 61 in St. Paul. The victim, 61-year-old Pa Moua of Maplewood was a passenger in a small SUV that collided with another small SUV that was making a left turn from the highway onto a city street. Neither driver was injured, but a second passenger in the vehicle with the fatally injured man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The fourth fatal incident occurred around 2 AM Sunday in Minneapolis. A statement issued by the Minneapolis Police Department indicates a man was killed when the vehicle he was a passenger in crashed into a utility pole along Hiawatha Avenue. The news release says it is suspected the woman driving the vehicle was impaired. A gun was also recovered from the vehicle following the crash.
