America’s #1 Drunkest City Is Right Here in Minnesota
The numbers are in and when it comes to tipping one (or several) back, the Drunkest City in America can be found right here in Minnesota.
Minnesotans have been known to raise a pint or two, but one city here in the Gopher State apparently does it way more than any other city in the United States-- and it's just a little over an hour from the Twin Cities.
That's the word from the number-crunchers over at 24/7 Tempo who just ranked the 50 Drunkest Cities in America. Here's the criteria and the data they used to come up with these rankings:
We reviewed the percentage of adults 18 and older who reported binge or heavy drinking within a 30-day period across all metro areas in the country from the 2023 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps.
Those data were compiled by a joint program by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute program, 24/Tempo noted. This survey uses the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) definition of 'binge' or 'heavy' drinking, which is 'consuming 5 or more drinks on an occasion for men or 4 or more drinks on an occasion for women,' the survey noted.
Binge drinking isn't just popular here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, mind you. Our neighbors to the east behind the Cheddar Curtain over in Wisconsin placed a whopping 12 cities on the 50 Drunkest Cities in America List this year, including:
- Eau Claire, WI - #4
- Lacrosse, WI - #5
- Appleton, WI - #6
- Greenbay, WI #8
- Fond du Lac, WI - #9
- Racine, WI - #12
- Oshkosh, WI - #15
- Wausau-Weston, WI - #16
- Milwaukee, WI - #17
- Janesville-Beloit, WI - #19
- Sheboygan, WI - #22
- Maddison, WI - #32
Meanwhile, the North Star State only had four cities included-- but one of Minnesota's took the top spot. Keep scrolling to see which ones made the list:
